Hate Getting Pictures Taken?

Have you though about having portraits done, but you hate getting your pictures taken? Or your spouse hates it? I feel you. And while that’s a legit feeling, and I want to validate what you or your honey are feeling about it, I would like to offer another perspective.

The lovely Morgan Williams of Morgan Williams Photography put it so well, that I just had to share it with you guys.

“I hear it ALL the time. “My boyfriend/fiance/husband/brother/man that I know/etc. HATES pictures.” And my response is usually something along the lines of “Oh, that’s totally normal. A lot of men are like that, but we’ll loosen him up and it’ll be great!” And honestly, it usually is. Because photo sessions are actually pretty fun if you let them be!

But guys, can I ask a favor of you? Can you please stop complaining to your significant other about how much you hate pictures? Could you, instead, put a smile on your face and make some effort to match her enthusiasm for documenting your life together?

The fact of the matter is that these photos that you’re dreading are going to become a family heirloom. You’re going to pass them down to your children, and they’ll pass them down to your grandchildren and so on and so forth. These photos are going to tell a story. These photos are your legacy. So turn your frown upside down, gentlemen, and soak in the reality of what’s happening. You’re recording a moment in your family’s history.”

And this is just a snippet. I think it would be awesome if you would go to her blog post *here* and read the rest of it. I also wrote a post not too long ago about the importance of photographs with family members *here*.

Please take a minute and think about our words, and then go document some memories. Someday, those documented memories are going to be all you have left of moments that are gone.

Love,
Kira
